Executive Director

The Executive Director provides strategic direction, vision, and management for the programs and volunteers of the Iron Horse Arts District. He/she demonstrates knowledge in event and program management, fundraising, marketing, finance and accounting, and grant writing. The Executive Director will implement the strategic plan created by the Iron Horse Arts Board and report changes to the Nebraska Arts Council as necessary to maintain certification as an official Creative Arts District.

REPORTING
The Executive Director reports to the Iron Horse Arts District Board of Directors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to raise funds and/or learn or continue to learn the art of fundraising to secure the resources needed to ensure the sustainability of the Iron Horse Arts District.
  • Nonprofit business strategies and/or the ability to acquire the knowledge
  • Grant writing and reporting experience and/or desire to learn the process
  • Ability to form strong relationships and collaborate with civic leaders and partner organizations
  • High standards of integrity, work ethic, trustworthiness, and personal responsibility
  • Event planning and/or project management experience
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills working independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas clearly
  • Ability to create and manage social media platforms and websites
  • Detail-oriented and reliable with excellent time-management skills
  • Broad knowledge of the arts and arts councils

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Resource Management: The Executive Director will be responsible for acquiring funds to cover all operational business expenses and events. He/she will use proven nonprofit business and fundraising strategies, collaborative efforts, and grant writing to secure financial, endowed, and in-kind gifts from individuals, regional businesses, government agencies, and philanthropic organizations.  She/he will oversee the budget, grants management, and possible membership sales to support the sustainability and growth of the district. The Executive Director will work closely with the Nebraska Arts Council and other grantees on grant reporting as required.
  • Strategic Leadership and Implementation: Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director implements the strategic plan for the Arts District ensuring a strong foundation, growth, and legacy.
  • Organizational Leadership: The Executive Director is responsible for recruiting competent volunteers, setting and evaluating committee structure and responsibilities, following the by-laws, implementing organizational structure, and hiring interns or part-time staff as needed while ensuring a growth-oriented environment to meet the objectives of the Arts District.
  • Arts Programming: The Executive Director will curate and coordinate a diverse range of arts and cultural programs, events, and exhibitions that showcase the talent within the district. Initiatives should promote inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility in the arts, ensuring that the district serves as a welcoming space for all. 
  • Marketing and Promotion: The Executive Director is responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies to raise awareness of the district locally and regionally. The Executive Director will partner with community organizations to bring art opportunities into existing events or attractions and use digital platforms, social media, and traditional media outlets to promote events, attract visitors, and enhance the district’s visibility.
  • Community Engagement: The Executive Director fosters positive relationships with artists, cultural organizations, businesses, and community members to enhance collaboration and support within the district. The Executive Director ensures volunteer leaders are actively engaged and aligned to support the mission and procedural policies of the Arts District. She/he will also attend community events, workshops, and forums to gather input and build a sense of belonging within the creative arts community.
  • Nonprofit Governance and Operations: The Executive Director is responsible for filing and keeping all forms to maintain compliance with local, state, and national legal and tax obligations.  

This position may be full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate.
