APPOINTMENT STATUS - Regular Full-Time, on-site in Holdrege offices
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES – Economic development isn’t just a career—it’s a chance to transform
communities! The South Central Economic Development District (SCEDD) is looking for a driven
Economic Development Specialist to serve as a Community Consultant to fuel growth and
sustainability across 13 counties in south-central Nebraska. In this role, you'll help local leaders and
municipalities thrive by supporting strategic planning, securing and administering grants, managing
housing and municipal projects, providing code enforcement services to support municipalities, and
forging key partnerships. You’ll collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to shape vibrant,

PRIMNARY RESPONSIBILITIES –
• Daily work in the areas of community and economic development activities including grant
administration, housing, project development, nuisance abatement/code enforcement.
Weekday evenings are periodically required to accommodate City/Village Council meetings
(typically 2-4/month, no weekends).
• Long-term commitment to assist communities as they seek to “take the next right step” toward
their future growth while demonstrating initiative to problem solve.
• Be supportive of the mission and culture of SCEDD; be a team player in a fast-paced, flexible,
“something new every day” environment, embracing a learning mindset.
• Lead and facilitate project planning and implementation discussions in communities.
• Provide leadership on various studies and assessments as needed to meet evolving needs.
Demonstrate confidence in presenting completed studies to boards and groups.
• Coordinate and support district activities with communities, officials, committees, various state
and federal agencies, citizens, and the SCEDD team.
SUPERVISION - The Community Consultant will work under the supervision and direction of
Management and be expected to complete assignments independently or as a member of a team.
QUALIFICATIONS –
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and social media, possess effective verbal and written
communication skills using various media and computer programs, strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge and ability to work with local, state, and federal programs, willingness to adapt to
changing workforce needs, and the ability to interpret and implement program requirements.
• Individuals with experience or background in education, journalism, or political science with strong
relationship building skills may be great candidates!
• Valid Nebraska Driver’s License as travel is required (day and weekday evening hours).
• Office location is in Holdrege, NE, this is not a remote position.
EDUCATION - Bachelor’s degree in journalism, business administration, planning, public
administration, political science, or related field. Three-five years of progressively responsible
professional work may be substituted for formal education.
