FREE Healthy Kids Events Planned at YMCAs

Fun runs encourage kids to get up and move

Children and families are invited to the YMCA at Gothenburg Health, the Don Sjogren Community YMCA in Holdrege and the Orthman Community YMCA in Lexington for FREE Healthy Kids Day ® events in April.

The Healthy Kids Day ® fun begins at the YMCA at Gothenburg Health (910 20th St.) on Wednesday, April 17, from 3-6 p.m. This event will include activities for kids and families, including vendor booths, games and other fun. It is a free event, and no registration is necessary. A color run for kids of all ages will take place at 6 p.m. Kids may register up until race time and can choose between a 1-mile fun run/walk or a 5K.

Local and state organizations will come together in Gothenburg to promote healthy kids and families. Booths will include The Milk House, Gothenburg Public Library, Nebraska State Patrol, Gothenburg Fire Department, and many other businesses and organizations. The Holdrege event takes place from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the YMCA at 1415 Broadway. More than 30 vendors will attend, including the Nebraska State Patrol; Holdrege Fire Department, EMS and Police Department; a local dentist; and
WIC. Activities will include a car safety seat check, the UNK fitness obstacle course, and the chance to adopt pets from a local animal shelter.

The first 100 kids who complete a sticker booklet at the event will receive a t-shirt.
Phelps Memorial Health Center is providing FREE Sam Q BBQ meals to all attendees.
The YMCA Kids Duck Run encourages kids in grades K-6 to discover their potential and will begin at 6 p.m. on April 19. Kids can register for the race up until race time. The Orthman Y in Lexington (1207 N. Grant) will also host Healthy Kids Day on Friday, April 19. A FREE meal of nachos (meat donated by Tyson Meats Inc.) will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. Activities will include bounce houses,
Gaga Ball, jousting, yard games, vendors and more. The first 200 kids at the event will receive a prize bag. This year, the Orthman YMCA is also partnering with Sixpence on this event. Kids are invited to participate in the 1-mile Color Run at 5:30 p.m. The race is for children ages 4 to Grade 8. There is a registration fee for the race, which also includes a t-shirt if registered by April 10.
