YMCA Brings Holiday Cheer with New Winter Wonderland and Traditional Events
HOLDREGE – The Don Sjogren Community YMCA’s new Winter Wonderland experience, the Christmas Blizten Craft Show, and other traditional family events will bring holiday cheer and memories to the community this December. 
Winter Wonderland
  • Dates: December 1–31 (weather permitting)
  • Time: 6–10 PM nightly
  • Kickoff Event: December 2, 6 PM (Hot Chocolate & Candy Canes from 5:30–6:30 PM)
  • Location: Don Sjogren Community YMCA lawn
The Winter Wonderland Kickoff Event will be Monday, Dec. 2, featuring complimentary hot chocolate and candy canes provided by the YMCA to start the evening. From December 1 through December 31, the YMCA’s Winter Wonderland will dazzle visitors with 30 inflatable holiday displays, twinkling lights, wooden Christmas decor, and the excitement of a "fake" snowball fight!
This free family-friendly event is the perfect way to create cherished holiday memories. Visitors are encouraged to take selfies and share their joy on the Don Sjogren Community YMCA Facebook page using #YWonderland. Winter Wonderland is proudly sponsored by Tractor Supply Co. and Braxton’s Smokehouse.
Christmas Blitzen Craft Show
  • Date: December 7
  • Time: 9 AM – 2 PM
  • Location: Don Sjogren Community YMCA Gymnasium
  • Entry Fee: Donation of a canned food item
Get your holiday shopping done while supporting local talent at the Christmas Blitzen Craft Show, featuring over 36 vendors, including five youth entrepreneurs. Vendors from Franklin; Kearney; Phillipsburg, Kan.; Wilcox; Minden; Cozad; Orleans; Loomis; Hildreth; Bertrand; Aurora; and beyond will offer a diverse selection of goods:
  • Homemade truffles, caramel apples, freeze-dried candy, and sourdough baked items
  • Custom gifts including jewelry, tumblers, bath salts, and candles
  • Unique crafts like 3D-printed gifts, wooden cutting boards, Christmas ornaments, scrabble art, lighted blocks, and more
Braxton’s Smokehouse Food Truck will be on-site serving breakfast and lunch to keep shoppers fueled. Entry is a canned food item donation, benefiting local food programs.

The Don Sjogren Community YMCA invites everyone to join the festivities, create lasting memories, and share the holiday spirit.
 
Other YMCA Holiday Events:
Gingerbread Houses & Santa – Saturday, Dec. 14, 9-10:30 AM. Free but must register by Dec. 8 to reserve a gingerbread house. Also, the Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast with Santa (freewill donation) at the same time at the YMCA. The Holdrege Ambassadors will also be giving rides on the old-fashioned fire truck.
Santa Sleigh 5K – Saturday, Dec. 14, 11 a.m. Race starts and ends at the YMCA and includes a 1 mile fun run/walk. Register by Nov. 26 to ensure a hoodie.
Polar Express – Saturday, Dec. 21, and Sunday, Dec. 22 (6 p.m., 7 p.m. or 8 p.m.). Listen to the Polar Express story while viewing Christmas lights around town on the YMCA “Polar Express Train.” Tickets required and can be purchased by calling the YMCA at 308-995-4050.
