China Painters Will Meet in Holdrege April 18-19

HOLDREGE - Holdrege will host the Nebraska Porcelain Artists 2024 Convention on April 18-19.

The group’s president, Lin Jones of Holdrege, said they are expecting between 40-45 attendees from Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas as well as guest artists from Nebraska, Iowa and Colorado.

The group will meet at the Holdrege City Auditorium, 421 Grant St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, and from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, April 19. Many attendees plan to arrive early for a special reception at the Nebraska Prairie Museum from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17.

The mission of the Nebraska Porcelain Painters (formerly the Nebraska World Organization of China Painters) is to become better artists through education and sharing in the fine art of China painting. The World Order of China Painters is based in Oklahoma City, where a China painting museum is located. Nebraska has nine clubs across the state with 63 members.

China painting is a time-consuming process that involves special paints and oils and firing pieces in a kiln (often many times) to get the desired effect. The paintings are intricate and detailed.

At the Holdrege convention, the China painters will learn more about various painting topics and watch demonstrations on new techniques.

The public is welcome to walk through and view displays at the auditorium during the conference and to register for a door prize (need not be present to win) or buy raffle tickets for a raffle prize. Each club will display items painted by its members. Guest artists will also display their work, and some pieces will be for sale.
